MAC address cloning is easily defeated by using additional tools at Layer 2. A password (among other things) can be associated with a MAC address which will prevent unauthorized access to an IP based network.

A MAC address, short for Media Access Control address, is a unique code assigned to most forms of networking hardware. The address is permanently assigned to the hardware, so limiting a wireless network's access to hardware -- such as wireless cards -- is a security feature employed by closed wireless networks. But an experienced hacker -- armed with the proper tools -- can still figure out an authorized MAC address, masquerade as a legitimate address and access a closed network.

chances are its an ethernet card mac. Youll need to research on web, for id numbers, and if clever, you may locate a retail outlet it was sold to, thats as close as you get.(from there, you'd access store records, product bar codes, credit card reciepts..etc,but thats serious stuff)
You see, a mac address, is just a unique serial number, of a component, usually a modem card, or network box, to identify it.
It is not an ip address. Youwill have at least 3, which your pc uses to identify you, as in 3 guys, all jeans, but one blue shirt, one red etc....like pc's on a network. There is no official list, of who has it, apart from nvidia, eg. but just a local use by use recording, to further identify a pc, as well as ip address...eg, there could be 5 pc's on one ip address, but each has a unique mac, either its modem card, pc component, or made up. You can elect to use a pc mac, not modem, or make up your own, even, as long, as its unique, to what is using it to separate your pc from others. There is a standard notation for the amount of letters/numbers, and registers of assigned ones, but its not illegal to just use one, made up, if it exists. Its voluntary protocol, but systems may not function, if its not a really random one, off the designated list, applied to manufacurers, etc.
Just out of interest, what is the mac code?
