Levayan Satanism, leaves people open to believe in Satan as a god, or to be an Atheist that still believes in the forces of nature and uses the Christian anti god Satan as a metaphor for them.

most of them that i have met do tend to have a "me first" approach to life and religion. i really do not care one way or the other what they believe as long as they respect me and my beliefs. and most do.

as for the Pagans. well i am a Celtic Pagan Priest, so my opinion of the Pagans is naturally going to be a good one.

I understand the flak that people get for their religious beliefs. this is why I do not advertise my beliefs. they are personnel to me and i do not need anyone's approval. i do wear a pentacle and several other "pagan "symbols. but they are usually small and are for my benefit and not to make a statement. if asked i will talk about my beliefs, but i will not fight about them. if someone has to tell me that i am going to hell or some other nonsense because of the gods that i choose to worship i simply walk away from them.

Well, hey--your girlfriend had got to expect that she's going to encounter a little hostility and take some guff if she goes around telling people she's a Satanist. Afterall, America's primary religion is Christianity, like it or not. But she is confused: Satan is not equated with Nature Worship at all. That would be Wicca. So she would be a Wiccan and not a Satanist. A lot of young teenir girls come on here and proudly proclaim themselves as being a Wiccan or a Satanist, and so often it sounds to me like they're just looking for attention, or to get a rise out of people. I'm guessing this is the case with your g/f. A TRUE Satanist conducts their sacraments and meetings and rituals in privacy, among only others of the same sect. Your gf is just looking to join a "cool" club, and is also naive. I doubt she could handle a real Satanic practice.

I am not a religious person at all but generally I think that people who step out of mainstream religions (Christianity and Judaism), that is those that are usually outside their cultural background are searching for something. I suspect that Satanists and Pagens are searching for specialness, an identity, feel rejected by mainstream culture and are therefore rejecting society themselves. Lots of teenagers and young adults flirt with Satanism and Paganism briefly and then drop it for other things. I would be kind and patient with a Satanist but probably not believe she is a true Satanist, just really confused.

Well, first off, I wouldn't necessarily put them in the same category. Satanists tend to fall into two camps: the Opposite of Christians camp, and the God of Chaos camp.

Opposite of Christian Satanists are usually goth-y, sometimes into sacrifices and weird sexual practices. Some are poseurs, some are deadly serious (emphasis on deadly.) Personally, I think it's lame to have a religion based on being the opposite of another religion. Kind of a cop-out.

God of Chaos Satanists are a little more like standard Pagans (though I wouldn't put them together. At least, not, like, in the same jar.) These Satanists see "Satan" as more of the diametric opposite of God, a necessary dark force to counteract the light of "God". Satan, in this case, is more of a Pan-type, a lusty, old-school nature god who is into sensual pleasures and hootin' and hollerin'. Some of these Satanists feel like they're maintaining the balance of religions, that they're fighting the constant emphasis of good-good-good that most people feel is "spiritual." It's not that they're bad, exactly--they just aren't "good" like most people think of good. Good for them is a much broader category.

Now, Pagans don't usually believe in an Ultimate Evil Force. Their gods/goddesses are usually a little good, a little bad. Plus, they're not Christian, so they don't believe in the Satan you run across, say, tempting Jesus or torturing Job. So Pagans and Satanists usually don't mix well. Though they often dress similarly and are sometimes marginalized together. But Satan is such a Judeo-Christian idea, it's hard for Pagans to feel much of a connection to him (her. It. Whatever.)

Personally, I'm a pretty straight-arrow kinda person and I have very strong morals, so I don't agree with a lot of the stuff Satanists think is okey-doke. But I have issues with Christians, too, because they're often way off base and not like Christ at all (who happened to be a very cool, liberal, somewhat wizard-y guy. Oh, come on! He did magic! Don't tell me there wasn't a little witchcraft in that story!)

If they can prove that they do their Satanist stuff as consenting adults and they don't harm others, then I guess they can do what they want. For instance, the Church of Satan doesn't believe in an afterlife. So they do what they want while they're alive. But I believe that actions have consequences and we're all interconnected, so what I do to hurt someone else will ultimately hurt me. As much as I can, I deny myself the temporary pleasure of retaliation because I know it'll come back to bite me somehow, even if it's just knowing that I've spread evil rather than letting it stop when it gets to me.

From what I've seen, Satanism seems incredibly lame and selfish, and I guess you can build a religious experience around it, but it's nothing I'd want to do. Now, I'm not including anything about "Satanic" cults. Or whatever they call themselves. Like any other cults, they're a breed apart from the religions they might be loosely associated with, and they can't be lumped together. Cults are dangerous, horrible, cruel, evil things and should be eradicated if at all possible. At least broken up. I'm just talking about religious Satanists and Pagans.

satan is the devil. he deceived adam and eve at the beginning and because of this all people in the flesh suffer. but only temporarily. this, the earth, is his kingdom until the end of tribulations which will soon begin. you friends are disrespected because they have sided with the fallen. it's that simple but i want you to realize that true christians love all of you just the same. our saviour Jesus the messiah , makes it clear that we are to love the sinner and hate the sin. God created nature and everything else and put it under our control according to his terms and conditions. your friends are worshiping a false God , one that has deceived them. i'm asking that right now you sit down and think about what Jesus offers. his arms are open, i'll be praying for you.

Defend the poor and fatherless; Do justice to the afflicted and needy. Deliver the poor and needy; Free them from the hand of the wicked.

Psalm 82:3-4

GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU!!!

I'm afraid being 'dissed' because of being a Satanist comes with the territory of being such. However, since Christianity holds that God created all things, the idea that Satan created it is in conflict because Satan, aka Lucifer, was an angel cast out by God.

Paganism is widely misunderstood and many people link it directly to Satanism, which is not always the fact - since there are many types of 'pagan' religions just as there are many types of Christian religions.

Generally, what I think of Satanism is pretty much what I think of all 'religions' - people feel a need to belong and to congregate based on a common set of beliefs and needs. If this fulfills you, more power to you. With my limited knowledge of Satanism and due to being raised, tho not a currently practicing, Christian, my overall feeling about it is to treat as anathema.

I have nothing against their personal beliefs. All I care about is a person's individual personality.

Everyone in my family is like that too, so afraid of "teh evil people." All the more reason to invite my Satanist friends to the family cookouts...heh heh.

I love them; I truly wish there were more around.

But... I'd love to challenge your concepts - don't you think that Satanism is just Christianity? I mean, Satanists are just subscribing to all the dogma and mythology of christianity, and that Satanists purportedly dislike and shun christianity in the same manner that chistians dislike and shun Satanists.

I'm not claiming to be correct, just my observation.
