It has no visible eyes or ears. It also has a very short tail. Does anyone have an idea of what it could be?

It sounds like a mole. They have a really ugly face with no eyes, a pinkish/red nose and are a little smaller than a chipmunk. They can make a mess out of your yard and they look sooo gross. My dog loves to go out in the yard first thing in the morning to dig them up when they're most active.

Sounds like a mole. This is not a rodent; it eats bugs. It makes raised tunnels in the yard just below the surface, pushing up the grass; you can stomp the tunnel flat again. Kinda cool.

Most likely a mole. Keep it and bring it to a vet, it could have a infection and spread it to your house.
