Frodo leaves with the elves and Bilbo because he received a stab wound that will never heal. If he stays in the Shire he will die. If he goes with the elves to where they're going, which is a magical place, he will live.

I think there's already some good answers here. So I won't bother restating the facts.

But, what I will say is.... buddy, you got to watch the first 2, you just gotta!

I hate the thought of you missin' out.

Perhaps if you have no time to watch a movie in one go:-

Watch them in pieces, that's what I do when I don't have time to watch a whole movie at once. And I have the extended versions, so each movie is 3hrs each.
Watch a bit one night, then some more the next...like your reading chapters of a book. I'm guessing you'd be hiring them from a video store? The first 2 movies will have moved to weekly hire, so watch one over the first week, and the second the next.

Just an idea. : )

I hate spoiling movies but since you watched the last one first it doesnt really matter...
Frodo got the ring from his uncle Bilbo ( the old guy that gets on the boat with him at the end) he left because he has to destroy the ring, because the ring is made from pure evil. And he has to go to Mordor to destroy it. He gets with a group of guys ( the Fellowship which are the 4 hobbits, the elf, dwarf and the guy who gets crowned king at the end, and the guy who tries to set his son on fire's other son, and Gandolf who dies to save them but comes back) Frodo leaves the Fellowship beacause the temptation for the power of the ring is too much for the other men to resist. Sam follows Frodo because he made a promise to Gandolf to watch over him. They meet Smeagle because he is still possessed by the power of the ring ( which it shows him at the begining of the movie finding the ring- before the ring mutated his body) and he is trying to get it back.

That should pretty much resolve any of the big questions you may have had.

What do you want to know? Frodo left becasue the ring had so change him he could no longer live as he was in the world and the elves could heal him only in thier land. If you want someone to tell you the whole story that would take far to long on here it would take less time to watch the movies.

You really need to watch the 1st 2 movies to fully appreciate the last one. It's kinda of like watching the new Halloween movies without watching the originals. It's just not the same.
