Say whatever you wish, but does it really bother you that much for someone else to choose to say "Happy Holidays?

I prefer Merry Christmas. Although happy holiday means happy holy day which also has a religious connotation.
What a lot of people have difficulty understanding that happy holidays or season's greetings is offensive to some Christians, because it desecularizes and trivializes Christmas. How would other religious groups feel if society took the meaning out of a very religious holiday and replaced it with a non religious connotation? Christmas is suppose to be about peace and earth and good will towards fellow human beings. But it is Jesus Christ that embodies these notions. Christmas is a reminder as to to why Christ was put on this earth. By desecularizing Christmas, you take away this reminder, then this joyous feeling of Christmas will start to fade away.
But somehow I suspect that atheists and a small minority of non Christians are offended by the word Christmas because they like to celebrate the season, without celebrating the birth of Christ, and somehow they feel guilty about that. They only way they can reconcile this notion in their minds is by taking the Christ out of Christmas. But in all respect I have to say to these people, sorry, but this is not your holiday.

Alot of people say "Happy Holidays" because it encompasses all winter holidays, not just Christmas. You really cannot tell by looking at someone what they believe or celebrate. So it is arrogant to believe that just because you and everyone you know celebrates Christmas, that the rest of the world does too, when in fact they don't. It's also extremely arrogant to believe that everyone is or must be Christian or else they aren't allowed to celebrate Christmas at all.
While I don't see anything wrong with saying "Merry Christmas" as it was secular from the very beginning and always will be, I tend to prefer "Happy Holidays" becasue it applies to many more people than "Merry Christmas" does.

Because random people, such as the lady behind the counter, do not know what holiday you are going to be celebrating so they tell you Happy Holidays. And they are telling you to have a happy new year as well. If you notice Christmas cards say that too. Most of the time when you send a Christmas card to someone you will not see them at least until after the new year. I say Merry Christmas myself.

Merry Christmas!!!! Some groups are concerned about politically incorrect religious holidays being celebrated by our government (separation of church and state). They think saying Happy Holidays will make Christmas non-religous. I guess if you believe it is not a celebration of the birth of Christ then Happy Holidays would be appropriate for you. I say Merry Christmas!!!

jointly as the social engineers have completed a stable interest of ridding the Christmas holiday of any of this is religious meaning, it continues to be regarded as a stat holiday in maximum countries and that i do no longer pay attention any of the non-Christians or atheists bitching concerning to the getting the time without work. I parent asserting "Merry Christmas" isn't any such undesirable element for everyone to declare via fact that a lot of human beings earnings from this holiday. jointly as i don't get disillusioned at 'happy holiday journeys' i'm no longer rather inspired with words like 'holiday' occasion or 'holiday' tree, those statements are merely stupid.

I perfer saying Merry Christmas. I do say happy hoildays occassionally but not often. I rather say merry christmas because without christ it would spell mas. It would be a mess. Without christ christmas wouldnt be the same. Christmas is a wonderful hoilday and time to spend with family and friends and to remember christ who was born. dont pretend to be someone who your not. Love christ no matter what they do, or if they change the name. For an example: A rose by any other name is is still a rose. no matter what you call it, it will always be a rose... have a blessed christmas! God bless

People are so sensitive in this country with things related to race, and religion that to act "politically correct" do many stupid things. For instance, I don't celebrate Thanksgiving day (I don't like to support genocide) but that day many people whish ME a Happy thanksgiving, that is just fine by me, because someone is wishing me a happy day, I couldn't care less about Thanksgiving day (no offense) but it is nice to have a person wishing me good things.
It is the same for Christmas, if I wish merry Christmas to someone, I am just wishing you good things, that it happens to be on Christmas day is pointless (for me). If you wish me a happy Hanukkah, it is cool by me i won't be offended just because I am not Jewish. It just happens to be a Holiday and a person is wishing you good for that day...
We should wish a happy day for everybody everyday. I guess that way we wouldn't be so defensive...
In the words of Fez.. have a good day

I think it all centers on being politically correct these days. I am tired of being politically correct. I will always say Merry Christmas. I am not out to disrespect anyone at all. I am a Christian. I feel like it has gotten to the point that Christians are the only ones that aren't allowed to have respected beliefs anymore. I respect everyone and I am nice to everyone, but I refuse to give into saying Happy Holidays. Merry Christmas Everyone!!!
