I think its fascinating that both major political parties are virtually the same and while they have to say different things to keep their barking dog cultist party members dancing to the tune, they actually are very much the same. Nothing really changes much. People thought that the Repubs would do away with gun laws, but in fact they enacted more. The Dems thought the Repubs would criminalize abortion but that didn't happen either. The Dems are in power in the legislature and you now have Dem leaders talking about sending troops to various hot spots in Africa to stop genocide (the same stuff Saddam did) so even though the Dems made a barking dog issue of Iraq they will end up doing the same thing some place else. Good example of how parties create images for people to feel good about is Vietnam. The war was started by several Democractic Presidents (Kennedy/Johnson) and escalated to huge numbers of troops under Dem Presidents and then the war was ended by a ruthless Republican President Nixon. If you ask a baby boomer about Vietnam they ignore what Kennedy did and bash Nixon for being to tough (in war!) even though he did stop the war. Repubs create images of people who are wealthy, tough, cowboy and patriotic and people eat that up and identify themselves as conservatives or Repubs. Dems create images of big feeling, intellectual, wonderful people and yet they are just as money hungry and selfish as Repubs and since the party tries to hold on to the labor vote and minorities it hardly represents intellectuals. Dems use black voters like washrags each election and yet Repubs appoint more black leaders to important positions in government than any Dem administration. The National Demorcatic Party was found to be an UNEQUAL employer just a few years ago. Polictical parties are just phony organizations who fool the fools and get people to dance the dance whenver they want. Politicians know that people would rather be fooled than have to think or look so they make that easy by having generals or actors help create images. People who ID themselves as liberals or conservatives are really just idiots since no one can be either all of the time. The people who do those things hurt this country more than the politicians because the pols are users and the followers have no more dignity than a condom. So there are some interesting things about politics. I am a registered Dem incidentally and live in one of the most Democratic states in the US but that does not mean that I do the gig when the piper pipes. We need to revamp of political parties and we need voters who actually pay attention before the election. We are a woefully uninformed population served by a national news media that should have to register as a lobbyist.
