I'm having my second c-section on December 29th. My last was October of 2003...So it has been while and I'm getting nervous too. :o( I know you are not supposed to eat anything before a certain amount of hours (24 or 12, I think)...but you should have an appointment the day before your c-section to tell you all you need to know to prepare for it. DON'T make the mistake of eating or drinking anything prior to your c-section! My first was an emergency and I ate 4 hours before and ended up puking all over myself while I was still on the table...what a way to celebrate your daughter's first cry, eh? LoL
Go0d luck and CONGRATS!! :o)

I had to have a C section with my first, since she decided to go breech just before her due date. Make sure you don't eat or drink anything at least 8 hours prior to having your C section. Your OB will go over all the details with you as far as that's concerned. Here's what they did with mine, and I'm sure it varies a bit:
You won't be able to walk around for about a day. They insert a catheter just prior to you having your C section since you can't get up and go the bathroom. They will start an IV and should also start a bag of antibiotics as well. Any abdominal surgery carries a greater risk of infection than most other surgeries. If it is a planned C section, they will probably do a spinal block which is very similar to an epidural, however, it's just one shot, not like an IV drip. I couldn't feel anything, just pressure from them moving things around to get the baby out. Once she was born, I was in the recovery room for about 45 minutes, or until you can move your legs. Once I was out of the recovery room, I was sent back to my own room and then I could hold her and feed her for the first time.
It wasn't horrible, and I was actually glad to have that extra day in the hospital. It gave me time for my milk to come in and have the nurse explain what was going on and how to pump, feed, etc. Here's some websites I found for you to regarding the process:

Try and shave yourself, you wont feel comfortable, nurses fidling down there. Eat alot the day before, because when the baby's born, you're cant allowed to eat for a whole day. Water, ice blocks and the drip will be your only intake. Check with the hospital you're admitted to whether they supply ice blocks, otherwise you'll have to ask a family member to bring some along to the hospital. Good luck and Merry Christmas!

You don't need to take anything. Make sure that you don't eat anything for six hours before you are scheduled for the surgery, just in case you have to be put under (there is a higher risk for aspiration if it hasn't been six hours). You won't be able to see what they are doing because there will be a drape in front of your face to create a barrier from your open wound. You won't be able to feel much either, so there isn't much to worry about. Good luck!

I had a c-section with my son. I didn't have time to prepare for it due to it was an emergencey. His heart beat dropped low. If you do not get any pain medcine, you will be put tp sleep. They used staples to put me back together. You won't be able to feel when you have to pee all that well.I will tell you this, get you some granny pads to go across where they cut you because you will leak fluids and blood alittle.

Don't eat.
It really isn't anything different than for a reg birth. Just comfy clothes to wear afterwards. You will still bleed. Your belly will be sore.
#1 thing lots of help. You won't be able to get up and around like you'd like to. Help is a priority.

There is really nothing you can do. Just abstain from eating for about six hours beforehand just in case they have to knock you out.

you can't really prepare for a c-section, they will drug you and more than likely put you to sleep, so you won't know anything has happened until you wake up.
