In a perfect world I think all married couples should have chosen their partner on their own. However, in say India, I think the practice of arranged marriage fits their culture for the most part. Now that the women of India are becoming more independent working in outsourced telecommunication jobs I think that the way has been paved for change in their culture regarding marriage.
I don't know all of the cultures that still practice arranged marriages today but I do know that certain tribes in Africa still practice it. I think arranged marriages serve their purpose in some cultures today but it is more of a convienence to the tribe/family than it is to the two people getting married. If arranged marriage makes a culture function than, to answer your question, I think they should continue. If all arranged marriages just stopped, it would screw up some parts of the world.

I would have to say both women and men should have choices. Many cultures look at arranged marriages in different ways. For example, Middle Eastern countries such as Egypt, Palestine, Syria, Jordan look at arranged marriages differently than other countries such as Turkey, Pakistan, India...it all depends on culture. Personally you should be able to make your own decisions regardless of what parents say or think.

I think that young people should pick their own spouses. I don't mean to disrespect any culture that has arranged marriages but that's how I feel

Men should have the choices, not women. The Bible is clear on the woman's role in the world. Much of the problems in modern society can be linked to women's abandoning of the Biblical commands and becoming liberated "feminists."
