Dalton came up with 4 postulates in his atomic theory of 1803. Since that time we know that:
1) There can be different forms (isotopes) of the same element but that they all have the same atomic number.
2) Atoms can be subdivided in nuclear reactions, but they are not subdivided in chemical reactions.
3) Atoms are composed of tiny particles (they are not solid spheres as Dalton thought).
4) Moseley arranged the periodic table by atomic number and all the ambiguities Mendeleev encountered were resolved.
