I have a 1999 Crysler Town&Country XL van (automatic).

There is something wrong with it. You can drive it forward and backward. Drive it as fast as you want. The problem is that when you're driving it will not shift out of 1st gear.

It has been at the reapair shop sinces July. They cannot figure out whats wrong. THey've tried everything they can think of. Fuses, Transmission, you name it. They've sent it out to a dozen different places a dozen different times. Each time it comes back with no change and no idea how to fix it.

What could it be?

How can I fix it?!

PLEASE HELP!!!

Thanks!

Sounds like linkage, but changing or a complete flush of transmission fluid could help. AAMCO is one of the best transmission repair places in the country. I am sure they will know how to fix your problem. ~

Let me get this straight...Your car is at an automotive shop for six months, that shop sent it to 12 other shops, replaced everything including transmission, and it still stays in first gear?

For some odd reason, I think you stretching the truth a little here.

Try changing the air in the tires.
Seems you've done everything else, couldn't hurt.

On a Chrysler minivan the most common transmission issue I see is the output speed sensor. This sends data on how fast the transmission is turning to the PCM and if it fails it is quite easy to spot on a proper diagnostic scanner.

When it fails the transmission will go into "limp mode" - it locks itself into 2nd gear.

Some transmissions have a vacuum line going to them to make them shift when they are supposed to.

Sounds like the trans has got to come apart. It sounds like a stuck or missing check ball.

Just break down and get a new tranny for it and that will stop all your aggravation.
