The 9/11 Version of Heaven- DJ Sammy
(It's about a little girl talking to her dad who died in 9/11 and she tells him all about what's going on in her life.)
View From Heaven- Yellowcard
(It's a song about how heaven is much better than here, it just reminds me of a friend who died and I think it's sad.)
Slipped Away- Avril Lavigne
(I'm not a big fan of her, but this song is about how she didn't get a chance to say goodbye to someone before they died.)
A Lifetime- Better Than Erza
(A song about a girl who died on her high school graduation day.)
Hear You Me- Jimmy Eat World
(A song about someone dying and one of the most well-known lines from that song.."may angels lead you in.")
Angel- Sarah McLachlan
(Just another sad song.)
Concrete Angel- Martina McBride
(A song about a little girl who's abused by her mother and her mom finally kills her and how no one ever took the time to help her.)
Stop Crying Your Heart Out- Oasis
(I think the title explains it.)
Everybody Hurts- REM
(Probably my favorite sad song ever, it makes me cry every time.)

Suicide is Painless by Johnny Mandel and Mike Altman written for the movie MASH. Altman wrote the lyrics at age 14 and made 1 million for cowriting the song much more than the 70K his father made for directing the movie MASH.

It has been rerecorded by both the Manic Street Preachers and Marilyn Manson.

The Johnny Mandrel version is much sadder but this is the only free link I could find.

My Immortal Evanescence. Such a powerful song that anyone who has lost someone very close and dear to them can relate to.
This song reminds my sister and I of my brother in law who past away in a car crash 2 years ago. I'm in tears right now just thinking about it.
Also Last Kiss by Pearl Jam
Hurt by Christina Aguilera is good too.

Savage Garden--Two beds and a coffee machine; Not really a popular song here, but my wife who is English introduced me. Its about a woman on the run with her kids from an abusive husband and the challenges she faces. Just a really sad song. If you get the chance listen to it

Ok...i know this is a bit beyond your average younger person listening spectrum, but...the saddest song of all time..."I'm so lonesone i could die" by Hank Williams...i've heard alot of versions of it...Elvis may do the best...or Johnny Cash w/ Hank III.

check these lyrics...

Hear that lonesome whipoorwill
He sounds to blue to fly
Th midnight train is whining low
I'm so lonesome I could die

I never seen a night, so long
When time go crawlin' by
The moon jest went behind the cloud
I'm so lonesome I could cry

Did you ever see a robin weep
When loved ones begin's to die
That means he lost th one he loved
I'm so lonesome I could cry

Th silence of th fallin' star
Lights up a purple sky
And as I wonder where you 'er
I'm so lonesome I could die
