Women tend to empathise with others and men like to solve problems. A man will try to find a solution when you are telling him your problems and women can misinterpret this as not listening. Sometimes when a woman just wants to be heard it's better to let the man know that you dont need him to fix this for you, just to hear you.

If you want a problem solved ask a man, if you want to share a problem tell a woman.

Karma.

not sure. They are, though. That's for sure.

If I had to pipe up and say something in defense of the average male, it's that women don't tend to be as obsessive, narrow and focused as men. When we are thinking about something, we are loathe to stop it or even interrupt it, even when we are being spoken to (and, for what it's worth, we ignore other males every bit as much as we do women).

Took a very deliberate and conscious effort on my part to "learn" to listen, but it was worth it. It didn't come naturally. Don't know the why about that any more than I do the why about why it seems to come naturally to women to do so. Only they can aswer that. The times I've asked, I've gotten aswers basically like: "It just does."

I just know that when my brain was just about boiling with tax hassles or the best way to get a job done or how the hell I was going to finish it on time or something similar, I didn't give much of a damn about who she bumped into at the grocery store, and often ended up tossing off stuff like: "That's nice....Huh......Oh Yeah, I remember now....where'd you say this happened again.." generated by the tiny sliver of my brain that wasn't still actively engaged in hashing out whatever I was thinking about when she started telling the story, and ended up cheesing her off.

Took a long time to realize that listening to what she had to say WAS more important than what I was obsessing on at that moment, even if I DID lose my train of thought.

Womens role throughout history has been the role of 'Caregiver'.
She will take care of others before herself, many times to the detriment of herself, and so she is attune to needs.
She tends to think emotionally as opposed to logically at first response.
This is in no way a negative.
Women are the comfort givers, the fixers of emotional hurts, the nurturers.
Men may also tap into this part of themselves that they have and don't use to the extent that women do.
Men have just not had this role and therefore are quite rusty at it, if some of them are even cognizant that they have it.
Also, women tend to want to explore deep feelings, where men just want to logically fix the problem so it will go away and he can move on to the next task.
Are we hardwired that way?
Perhaps. Perhaps we're 'softwired' that way.
And thank goodness for that.

We are trained by our mothers and grandmothers to listen. Also, we are taught how to emphasize with others. And men would rather fix problems than listen to them. Women listen to others and let them figure out the solution to their own problems; men try to fix the problems right away. It's that mars and venus thing in action. lol

They are more emotional. Have you heard two blokes on the phone?
"Hey rick lets get together. How about the blue room at 5pm?"
"Oh Hello charley - ok Tonight at 5pm Ok be there." (click)

Two women.
"Hello Andrea, I was thinking of getting together with you. Ho - by the way how is rick's problem....."
(half hour later)
"Oh- I think I can make 8pm - are you sure you feel alright over that incident with trevor?"...etc..

They are more focused on things like colors - Andreas car is a nice blue car with its own personality, rather than Trev, with his 5 litre 16 value fuel injected BMW which does 0-60 in 3 seconds.

There is a whole world of difference in the way thier brains work. Men are results and function focused, women are focused on relationships and feelings.

Men are like the headlines of a newpaper, whereas women are like the fine print. They want to know more therefore they listen and analyze and judge, and make decisions based on what they hear.

Like Honey I will get to that after the game or I don't want to do that today maybe tomorrow. No man likes for anyone to me right expect for him he likes to be right all the time and there for doesn't like to hear others talk they may prove him wrong.

in my experience, women can sit and pay attention for longer periods of time. guys can't. is it short attention spans? grumbling bellies? picturing boobs or booties every five seconds?

guys are more image oriented, women are more in depth. they enjoy conversation. what a woman can say in an hour, a man can say in a second. no offense to either gender.

personally, i can't focus on anything and i'm known to get in trouble for feinting listening or forgetting what someone just said.

it's a guy thing i guess.
