Not until Bud (the owner's pawn) Selig is gone...at the very least. The pawn does not even want to discuss it. He does not have the marbles to be the commissioner to make good changes to the game. Seriously, he did not try to reform steroid testing until MLB was dragged into Congressional hearings, the man allowed a tie in the All Star Game which led to an even more idiotic decision for the home field advantage All Star rule. Watch the film from the all century team again and that should say it all. Pete Rose, the man who is banned for life, received the loudest and longest ovation from the FANS!!! I thought that sports were supposed to be for the fans and it sure sound like the fans spoke. To my knowledge, the Hall of Fame did not institute the rule to not allow players banned for life until after Rose was banned so it was the choice of the powers that be to keep Shoeless Joe out. Ya think MLB may have put a little pressure on the Hall of Fame to change that rule so they did not get egg on their face because a majority of fans want Rose in the Hall? Hmmmm. So, hopefully once the pawn retires in a year or two there will be a baseball fan in the office rather than an owner. If multiple offending crack heads (Strawberry, Gooden, Howe, etc...funny how they all played for the Yankees at some point) can get back in baseball then Rose should be back in as well. Open the voting to the fans because we are the one's who pay admission to get into the building for crying out loud. If not, then maybe the baseball writers should pay all the bills so the fans can get in for free. Go Redlegs in 2007!!!

i think of the steroids project has had the terrific impact on baseball. The Pete Rose incident became in actuality an remoted ingredient. Pete Rose claims that he in simple terms guess on the Reds to win so he would have made his communities attempt extra good. i do no longer think of there is particularly any information that he brought about his communities to lose video games or did something to throw the video games. The steroids project became everyday. no person is conscious of precisely how everyday steroids are transforming into in baseball and due to that, we don't understand in simple terms which records and video games have been desperate by using fact of steroids. Even Barry Bonds is suspicious yet can't be shown to have used steroids. it particularly is a shame that records have fallen and could fall, yet with out any thank you to tutor that steroids have been used, the records and sport judgements will sit down alongside each and every legiteimate stat obtainable.

Pete broke the cardinal rule of baseball. Betting while involved in the game. Don't think Pete Rose will ever be reinstated. Since 1919...Shoeless Joe Jackson has been banned. So I don't think you'll see Pete Rose reinstated until Joe Jackson and Ed Cicotte get reinstated too.

Rook said it perfectly. If this goes to a vote, we should all vote for him. Jon T makes a good point, too.
I 100% disagree with the thought that using steriods is equal to betting on baseball. Please refer to my write-up to the question: "If McGwire gets into the hall of fame do you think Pete Rose will try and make a statement on his own behalf?"

I doubt he will be let into baseball anytime soon. He made his admission to gambling on baseball solely to make money off the book he made his admission in.
I believe that he should be in the hall of fame, due to his accomplishments as a player. Sadly, the writers and the HOF members do not distinguish between his playing career and his post playing days. Those two periods of time are much easier to distinguish than the steroids vs. non steroids statistics of Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Jose Canseco, Sammy Sosa, and the like...who will be eligible in the next several years...starting with next month with McGwire.

Never, and they shouldn't. The man knowingly broke rules that undermined the credibility of the sport. It is no different from auditors that sign off on fraudulent financial statements.
Comparing what he did to stealing candy is ridiculous and naive.
The moment someone who has the ability to have an impact on the outcome of a game (manager, coach, player, umpire) is betting on the sport, he is compromising not only his integrity, but that of the sport too.
I guess Rose will have to settle for whoring his books and trinkets on Home Shopping Network.

I always thought that banned for life meant just that. Pete Rose proved himself to be a bald faced liar and deserving of his live time ban.

Maybe when he gets the majority of people on his side and Bud Selig or another commisioner has not choice to put him in. His numbers are obviously hof worthy but it will be a long time before some people forgive him for what he did.

when a new commisioner comes in that has the brains to understand he is good enough to be in the hall of fame since it is bullshit that he isnt in even though he is the all time hit leader. who cares that he bet on baseball, its like saying there not going to let some guy in the Hall just cause he stole a candy bar
