My piggie always leaves a lot of hair around the house. When I hold him for a while, I turn into a bear! Is this normal?

Yes its normal, i have an absynian guinea pig and she sheds alot too. Guinea pigs shed there hair in the fall and grow in fur to keep them warmer in the winter, so that might be a factor. Just brush him everyday. However if after a while the shedding is coming out and big clumps and you can see his skin, then you need to take him to a vet. There is a small chance that he might have lice, if he is scratching himself alot and then the hair is coming out, but dont worry its not contagious to humans only other guinea pigs. Hope this helps!

Yes, shedding in short haired guinea pigs is completely normal. However, you might want to check his fur for mites just to be on the safe side. (:

Actually NO! Its not normal. I had a guinea pig do the samething. It ended up having a heredatry type of mange. We ended up getting medication from the vet and it helped a ton. I suggest that you take your darling guinea pig to the vet. Yours may have the same problem.

By the way, they also shed like that if they have ring worm.

I am sure all animals shed, even us. So it's probably normal. My bird sheds on certain seasons and weathers. He was shedding just yeasterday.

NO! It's a first symptom of cancer. I thought it was normal before mine died. YOU SHOULD TAKE IT TO THE VET IMEDIATELY.
