I was thinking about getting my brother hermit crabs. Would it be too hard for him to take care of ?

hermit crabs are the easiest pet to take care of.

all you need to do is feed them and change the water dish.

and get some extra shells, bigger ones. they need new ones as they grow.

No. 11 is a great age. Hermit crabs are also great because they are very low maintenance but they are enough to teach the child that he/she has responsibilities. He/she should be responsible for feeding the crab and cleaning the cage. Then when the child gets older he/she can move up pet-wise (hermit crab to mouse for example) Hermit carbs are also great because when they get bigger the child will be able to pick a new shell for the crab and show their creativity. Hope this helps.

Hermit crabs are very appropriate for young children because they are easy to take care of and they help teach responsibility.

I see a lot of parents buy hermit crabs for their kids, so I'm sure buying them for your brother will be fine. And they have colourful assortment of shells to buy too that I'm sure you will both enjoy picking them out.

It all depends on the child. My daughter is 11 and had 6 and now she is down to 4 because she has a very hard time remembering to check them everyday. She is just now starting to remember. Its been about 8 months. I told her that if she is eating the hermies need to eat so she checks their food and water every time she eats. This might be too much checking but at least she is paying attention to them and playing with them. Just make sure that if you get him some you get more then one and if one dies get another one. They do not like to be alone. They get depressed and can die.
