Which brand of notebook (laptop) is the best to buy? I'm looking particularly for durability and reliability.

no matter what you have to do, Mac is the way to go...the layout is somewhat different than a PC, but once you go Mac, you never go back....i never will, and i've been using 90% PC since the kindergarten and im currently a senior in high school...Macs are great for anything at all, i've never had to do a CTRL-ALT-DEL type of scenario, nor have had to restart cause of any problems...clean operation, NO ANTIVIRUS PROGRAM OR FIREWALLS to worry about....zero viruses, no spam, malware, etc. those are a few good durability factors...the others contribute to reliability...Dells are alright, but they need to be sent to the manufacturer for repairs and above all, upgrades, because Dells are snots and can only have upgrades through the company which is more expensive...if you can't afford a Mac, then either get an HP which are good or a Sony

Toshiba. I have owned one for close to 2 years now. It has Vista and I still love it. I even had a couple of issues with it under warranty. First time took it to a local authorized repair place. Fixed it right up in less than a week. The company was literally 10 minutes from home. Second time I sent it back to Toshiba, for no particular reason, instead of using the local company I used the first time. I had to bring it to a UPS store that was 15 minutes from home. Spent 2 minutes filling out paperwork there. They boxed it up and Toshiba paid shipping both ways. Had the laptop back in exactly one week. Despite these 2 incidents I would buy another one in a minute. Hope this helps. Good Luck.

Most brands offer certain notebooks that are especially durable. Try comparing durable notebooks for different brands, based on the other factors that you might want to consider, such as price and functionality.(Some notebooks are best for media, some are best for mobile use, etc.)

It depends on what you want to use it for and how much you want to spend. This is a pretty subjective question and you're going to get answers all over the map.

Personally, I adore HPs and use them exclusively. I have an HP Pavilion dv8040us with full keyboard and 10 key, 17" Brite-View screen, 160GB HD (2 80GBs), 1GB of RAM (which I later upgraded to 2GB), wireless/ethernet/phone modem built in, DVD-RW, digital media slot (for SD/MMC/xD, etc. cards), and more. I got it brand new on eBay for $800 and have been thrilled all the way around.

I'd personally go with Apple. Unless you're not a fan of Mac and their product... but especially if you have an ipod, Apple for sure. Takes some getting used to if you've only ever used a PC, but I'll never go back.. AND if you need to you can install windows on an Apple notebook so it can run both Mac OSX and Windows PC for applications such as Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc.

If reliability and durability are your biggest concerns, then you need to go with HP. You also want to go to www.stupidcheapcomputers.net to get one b/c they sell nothing but professional-grade systems for the same or less than you would spend for a consumer-grade system anywhere else.

They don't sell Dell b/c of the terrible problems that Dell has had with their quality of product and customer service.

Dell's are great. You can find a great deal through the outlet.
All brands really use the same parts, except for apple.

Okay here is the dilema. It all depends on what you are really going to use it for.
For Game Play and Movies, media you should get a mac
for docs and work n stuff get a gateway or dell
for games and work try alienware they are hot
