I think most people starts out as extras. Even if you have to start out for free, then do that to get your foot in the door.

Once you get known, then people may start calling you to help them with their project.

Most new actors/actresses work at minimum wage jobs, while take movie extra jobs as a hobby until they get recognized or until they get a better paying job.

If your from Southern California you can fill up your week with just going on auditions.

Plenty, in order to get into one you need to be submitted by a SAG franchised agency. If you are not so represented you have almost no chance. Professional productions don't do open calls for principal roles. Sorry
