I think being sensitive to the suffering of others is a wonderful trait for someome to have. It is definitely not a "weakness" because you often have to fight injustice and apathy to stand up for those who cannot fight for themselves. I think how sensitive you are depends on how you were raised, how much suffering you have experienced or seen and your sense of "right and wrong". I personally would rather be remembered as a compassionate, sensitive person, than a tough, uncaring person. A better world is the greatest legacy you can leave when you are gone.

It's the old arguement between genes and upbringing...nobody really knows WHY people are so different.

I suspect it is more to do with what we have gone through as we grew up. Some people get their way by being selfish...and so follow that system.. While others take the sufferings of their childhood to heart and don't want to impose it on anyone else.

Why it happens? God only knows. And He can also change the heart of the tough nuts if they allow Him to.

People who have a lot of sensitivity are seen as having a lot of good and caring in them.

People who are tough nuts and not sensitive toward the suffering of others are seen as cold, uncaring, insensitive people.

It truly is much better to be a sensitive person, as that is a great trait to have.

Perhaps the tough nuts person may go farther in life, as far as their career or financially, but the caring person is the better person, and God looks favorably upon that person.

Wow -- why do so many people on here talk in extremes? Just because someone doesn't worry about all of the troubles of all the people all over the world that doesn't make that person a "tough nut". There are happy, reasonable mediums. There are things that are so far beyond our control, that if we worried about them all the time, we'd be nothing more than quivering gelatinous masses.

In the wild if an animal is kinder to an injured animal then they would be eaten by the other animals with the weak animal and never get to pass on those genes. I guess my best theory comes from the fact that we all evolved from animals and we are still animals and as much as we like to think we are better then that, the animal nature still becomes part of a norm in society and culture.

The people in the world are very diverse... everybody is coming from a different place.

I'm very very sensitive towards the sufferings of others.

Hmm... no. People are different. Sometimes i get aggrivated because i feel that they put themselves there and aren't doing anything to make it better (not doing anything except relying on other people to make it better for them)... but others feel that no one deserves to live that way and do feel bad for them... i think its the different opinions that make the world go round!

Being sensitive to all of that can drive a person crazy. If you are not sensitive to anything, you got nothing to worry about.
