(When my children were little I would usually wake up at 5:30 after going to sleep at 4:30. It was "excellent" preparing dinner for a giant load of people on that much sleep....)
If you're a grown-up with young children, you should be up by 5:30. Most young children wake up around 6 Christmas morning.
If you're a grown-up with middle-years children you may get to sleep until 7:00, since older children tend to sleep a little later.
If you're a grown-up with grown/almost grown children why not sleep until 8:00 and have a nice breakfast with the grown children (if they're at the house).
If you're a kid, for goodness sake, can you stay asleep until at least 8:00. Your parents are crashing after a very busy Christmas season, and they could use a little extra sleep before beginning the Big Day.
Of course, for grown-ups, I think no matter how early you have to get up to have a couple of cups of coffee before all the action and awe begins its worth it to figure out when you're children will be getting up and then getting up a couple of hours before that.

When I lived at home I would always get up at like 4 or 5, even when I was 17/18. LOL Now that I have kids I want to sleep in til atleast 7 but I understand them wanting to get up early just like I did so I do. But I get my coffee first while they open their stockings. It's exciting for them.

I know it's fun to get up early on Christmas, but resist the temptation and wait. If you have more sleep then you'll have a better Christmas!

Bad idea to wake up at 5am but wait a little while.
If your a kid: wait.
If your an adult: get up early but not to early.

i usually get up at like 6. that seems late to me, but that's only because i stay up really late on christmas eve until like 3 am. isn't it pathetic, every year i'm convinced that i'm going to catch "santa" (wink wink) in the act and i never can. it drives me insane.

Sleep in as late as you can...that way, everyone else will get annoyed at you for sleeping in so late and they'll just have to get you up! See, instant alarm clock!

If you have a great feast the night before then it would be best to wake up late. :)

If you have kids, no worries, they will wake you up or if you have children in your family they will go around waking EVERYBODY up.
