I'm afraid that I might be schizophrenic. Every time I do something loud (for example, when you take a shower you can't hear anything else but the water or when you dry your hair you can't hear anything but your hair dryer) I hear voices, and when I turn the hair dryer off to make sure the voices were real, they're not. It sort of happens everyday, and I'm sorry if this question is idiotic but does this make me schizo?

What you are describing here, if extreme, would more apply to "obssessive compulsive disorder"; you can read about that, even in wikipedia.

There can actually be lots of reasons for that, I had the same thing and thought I was loosing it, went right in, and found out it was ringing in my ears, and my brain was trying to figure out what was going on. Nothing else was wrong. If it continues you may want to see a doctor, or if they continue always. Then only a Proffessional in person can evaluate you. There are other reasons though so don't panic yet. If you did have it, it's not like what most people think, having worked with people who actually have it, with medication, most people live normal lives now, without everyone knowing, or being hospitalised or anything else forever.

If you are worried that you might be schizophrenic you probably aren't. The voices schizophrenic people hear are not subtle. They are imposible to ignore. What most people hear that aren't schizophrenic are background noise which the mind can convert to conversation, something like being awake and dreaming. Some of what we hear is our memory. The voices schizophrenic people hear are almost always negative.

I don't think it does. Hearing voices is not the only symptom of schrizophrenia.

If the voices were telling you to do something destructive then perhaps it could be.

If you're only hearing them with loud showers or a hair dryer, don't worry about them.

Have you been getting enough sleep? How long has this been going on?? I doubt it would just come on all of a sudden.

I went to school with someone who was schizophrenic and he believed that his "friends" really existed.

Good luck!!

Doubtful. Sometimes the extra sound stimuli can be interpreted as voices. It's the way your brain is processing it.
