It's not psycological nor sociology. It's, in fact, simple economic terms. On a supply curve for selling, you have varied level of prices. If you sell a soda pop for 1.00, you expect to pay that price. IF. ,however, you can sell a soda pop and add 25 more ounces of fluid for 1.20....your selling at a varied price on your supply curve. Your making more money at two price levels along your supply curve.

I learned in Sociology that economics plays a big role in McDonalds because the cheap fast food junk is what makes it affordable to low economic status people in the US. Also they are a multi billion dollar industry because of the fast growing popularity of McDonalds. They use cheap half dead chickens for their nuggets as the video showed where the chickens are almost mutilated and formed into "nuggets." After that movie I could not go to McDonalds or even look at one without wanting to barf. But if I were starving on the street I'd buy food for the special 99cent days after begging for dough. Go figure.

because fast food restaurants, like McDonalds, bring in billions of dollars a year and since "Supersize Me" turned so many people off McDonalds, these fast food chains are bringing in less money. this hurts our economy.

Well I could guess about it's relation to the fast food industry, but a lot would be BS. Curious what anyone else will say though.
