I think actually my childhood Christmas's were better becouse as children our expectations were not so grand, we didn't have gaming systems and videos or expensive robots and electronics our toys were simpler and cheaper and I think we appreciated things more becouse society was still kinda old fashion. Christmas was more about family and going to church, watching a nativity pagent and going caroling. Now very few people go caroling or hold nativity pagents. Stores, t.v. everything now seems so geared towards spend spend spend, peer pressure and society in general make it very hard to go back to the basics of christmas where the thought really was what mattered. I actually feel sorry for families now becouse the holidays are no longer about love, Christ and giving. Its about spending.

Mine was worse, but we didn't know it. We were extremely poor, my mother being barely able to pay the rent and feed us. But we always managed to find a new set of clothes, a pair of pjs( this was the gift we opened Christmas eve) and one store bought toy under the tree. We also found rag dolls or teddys for the little ones and a (second hand) book for the older ones. Our stocking always had an apple, a tangerine, store bought candy and some small toy. We didn't know that the toys and sweets were donated by the lions club, or that the clothes, were made from 'unusable' quality fabric our mom had picked out of the trash bins from the local fabric mills. All our neighbours were poor, and we had more than they did because our mom had a sewing machine.
