However he is not like his brother at all, he has no manners, calls her at all hours and expects her to go to his house or stay at ours after clubbing or the pub. He comes in to our front room and picks up the paper, feet on the table, no acknowledgement to us! I have tryed very hard to accept him, I have even cooked him meals and have no thank you. My daughter is horrible to me and her brothers and totally miserable lately, I know her and this is not her what do I do???

Your not accepting her choice in boyfriends I am sure adds to her misery, and yours as well!

Have you tried talking to your daughter about him? Not so much as a parent, but more as a friend? Maybe treat her to lunch one Saturday and discuss with her what it is about him that you don't like in a friendly manner.

At her age, your daughter is getting ready to head out into the world on her own soon, and if you push too hard against this young man, you might end up not only pushing her towards him out of defiance, but if things get really ugly, you may also end up making her less interested in keeping a relationship with you when she's on her own.

You need to let her know that while you don't approve, she's at a point in her life where she has to make decisions for herself, and no matter what the decision, you will still support and love her. You're also going to have to transition your relationship with her from that of a parent to more of a friend, and this is an excellent issue to start with.

i myself dont ahve much experience with 17 yeard olds other than at some point been one myself and if you do anything to try and get your daughter to stop seeing this bloke all she is going to do is want to see him more!

as hard as it may be just let her carry on and eventually hopefully she'll realise what a bum he is!

let her learn from her own mistakes
