I want to send a big file (a concert with my band) to some other computer over the internet. I have tried with DC++ or ODC, but these programs are hard to configure. I also don't want to use torrents, since the person receiving the file does not know much about computers. What I want is a simple peer to peer application which is easy to configure and which I can use to send big files over the internet. Needless to mention, I want it to be free. Any suggestions?

You are asking a lot. Since you do not want to use torrents or the like your only other options are to break the file up and send it in several smaller pieces or if you both have window xp you can have him access your hard drive over the net. However I do not recommend either of these, especially the ladder because I doubt you have the expertise to do it and you can leave yourself vulnerable to hackers. Why don't you just burn it to CD or DVD and mail it to your friend? Or you can use one of the other programs that are similar to torrents like usendit or rapidshare, they are a little easier than torrents.

You can't send that big of a file over the internet, other than to split it. But in your case, you do not wish to go that route. The best way to send that size of a file to your sister is to, burn it onto DVD and/or DVD's and send it through the Postal Service and/or any other delivery service. U.S. postal would be the cheapest. The only other way, would be to... Use a video software program and manually split the video file into... (let's say) Part 1, Part 2, Part 3 and so on. If you do it properly, you will have enough of smaller parts to email to your sister.

The easiest way is actually a web server (HTTP or FTP) which serves the file. The person receiving the file does not have to do any configuring on his end.

Apache for a webserver or Filezilla FTP server (PureFTPd, ProFTPd, etc. on Linux), work well.

Try putting it in a zip file -- this helps protect it from getting corrupted

I use Yousendit.com to send video to my father.

www.yousendit.com

You both need to sign up for access ( free ) they let you send files up 100Mb with the free account for larger files they charge ( you could always split up larger files with WinRar or similar )

Hope this helps....

Upload your file to yousendit.com or rapidshare.com or megaupload.com. It will give you a link that you can send to your friend and he can then download it.
