Natural birth or Epidural?

Epidural, definitely.

I don't really understand why women put themselves through the torture of unmedicated childbirth when they don't have to. You wouldn't have a "natural" root canal would you? You wouldn't have a "natural" appendectomy would you? No. So why would you put yourself through a natural birth?

In response to Mrs. Belcher--their view is already distorted when they're born and just because you have an epidural doesn't mean you're a "wuss".

After 4 deliveries, I would have to say natural. My labors have ranged from 1 to 21 hours long, all natural deliveries. I prefer the natural delivery because I am a very independant woman, I am usually out of the delivery bed within 30 minutes,I wouldnt be able to lie there and wait for the epidural to wear off.( I am also out of the hospital the next morning.) But only you can truly know which is best for you when the time comes. I know plenty of women who have been deadset either way and have changed their minds when the time came, and then felt guilty about it later. Just leave it open until the time comes, not every women can handle a natural delivery, but then some labors can go on and on and on. Good luck, hope you have a happy healthy baby.

Epidural all the way, Epidurals are good so that you can enjoy giving birth instead of screaming and missing out on the birth. A Epidural just feels like a bee sting and its not painful. I have had 2 and i would recommend it to any body.

My Epidural helped A LOT with the extreme pain. I had back labor really bad and I don't know if I could have made it without the Epidural. It was amazing how well it worked.

I have two answers for you. I gave birth naturally and have only one son. My labor was 12 hours and it was amazing. It was something that resembled outerwordly powers. I felt that my existence was useless only for the purpose of the resolve and allowing this life to come into the world. Very beautiful.

my friend isabel had two children, and they were both c-section because of necessity. I don't think it matters because the condition of the mother and child are the most important. Each experience is unique , although recovery with this procedure is much more lengthy and painful. But I think people tend to push the ceserean as the easier option. When in reality it is much more painful, and less connecting with the child.

usually women ask for an epidural right when the pain gets bad enough that they don't think they can handle it if it gets worse. thing is, it won't get worse. that's about where they're plateau is. no epidural for me because my child's first view of the world is not going to be distorted by being drugged up cuz mommy was a wuss. women all over the world have had babies without epidurals for thousands of years, and most still do.

EPIDURAL-- i have had both. I prefer the epidural because it seemed like my labor progressed much faster when i had one and you can kind of take a nap while you dialate, but when you go natural there is no way you could relax!

No doubt epidural. I experienced both. When I go to the hospital this time that is the first paper I want to sign for.

You have to do what is right for you, your baby and your body.
Every woman is different, every pregnancy is different and every delivery is different.
I have had one child, and I delivered naturally. It was amazing and the pain was completely manageable. However, as you have read the answers to your question you have seen that other women 'screamed, were miserable, etc...' That was their experience but not mine.
I used the Bradley method and I felt that it gave me a lot of information so that I could make a good decision. I went in to the delivery thinking I would "try my best" to go natural, but not opposed to asking for meds if I needed them. I did not!
Get yourself informed, think about your own pain tolerance and Good Luck & Congrats!!

epidural most definitely... i had one of each and natural almost killed me... i cried throughout the whole labor and felt like i wanted to curl into a ball and never get pregnant again... i swear... it was harder for me to push with the pain... but that was just me.. i love the epidural and will never go without again...
