The last date that I had worked this year on record was Jan 9. I was on vacation at that time, will I be able to file income tax this year or tell me how I can find out, Thanx

You will know when you get your W-2 in late January 2007 If you want to find out sooner call your employer and ask what the last pay date for you was. If it's anytime in 2006 you will have to file.

Actually... It's optional because if the tax due is zero (which would be in your case because your excemptions would be much higher than the amount earned), the you are under no obligation to file or pay taxes. You might want to file anyway in case you can get some money back.

Your best bet is to go in person to the Internal Revenue Service - Taxpayer Assistance Division office and show your last pay stub and or your W-2. They will also help you fill out AND file your taxes for free. Make sure you bring your actual Social Security card and some ID just in case they ask for it.
