I appreciate my mother for keeping my kids once every two weeks while i work, but she wants to feed my seven month old table food just because she has broken a tooth. I don't agree with this, but I don't want to loose my child care either... Can someone help me come up with a way to tell her not to do this?

I know the doctors and nurses are against feeding babies too early, but I have done it with all my children, (ages 1-15) they are all healthy, no allergies, no problems. It was in fact my grandmother who first fed my 2 month old baby girl mushy table food(haha) because all she had done for the first two months of her life was cry. All my children have been in the 95th percentile or right of the charts, and not fat, just strong and healthy. I would say that your mom knows what she is doing and maybe you should try showing some appreciation for her experience and willingness to help you out. I am sure no harm will come to your baby from grandma.

There is nothing wrong with your child eating "table" food at 7 months old. Do you think that there has always been baby food around? As long as is does not have any salt, sugar or spices....just natural and cooked till soft and mashed up there is nothing wrong with it. Many people...myself as one, have NEVER bought baby food other than rice cereal. Ask your child doctor and he/she will tell you the same thing.

Have a talk with your Mom about respect. Tell her that she doesn't have to agree with your way of parenting, but that you would appreciate it if she could respect it. Ask her how she would feel if someone had tried to do things with her kids that made her feel uncomfortable.

When my Mom watched my son when he was like 3 or 4 months old I knew how my Mom was. So I told her specifically NO candy and NO cherry, grape, red dye or purple dye. ( I was allergic to grape and purple as a child and I had a friend alergic to red and cherry so it worried me) On top of NO food besides his bottles. Don't you know I called to check on him and shes like "Oh he's doing fine. We are sharing a cherry sucker." I went there and had a fit on her. I told her that I asked her to follow a few simple rules with my son and she totally broke them. My little sister is 10 and has horrible teeth...can't imagine why????

So be strong and if she still does then put your foot down and find someone else to watch your little one. Tell her the exact reason you are putting your kids elsewhere though so that she knows. She might come around if she sees how important it is to you. Good luck!

What do you mean by "table food"? Babies should be eating a variety of regular "grown up" foods by the time they're seven months old (pureed or mashed, and with less salt/condiments, of course).
Who has the broken tooth? I'm not sure I understand this question.

Nothing wrong with table food as long as it's one new food every 2 weeks or so to monitor for allergies. There's nothing magic in the baby food that makes it better--it's just more convenient that pureeing it yourself.

Don't flip out on her or anything. Just simply tell her that you don't think that your baby is ready for table food and that you don't want to mess up her eating habit. Make sure that if your baby is on baby food that you let her know what you want her to eat. Let her know that she is appreciated because you ave to remember she is your mother.

TO BE SO WORRIED ABOUT THIS, I HAVE TO ASSUME YOU ARE BREASTFEEDING...ONLY...GREAT CHOICE FOR BABY! CONTACT YOUR LOCAL LE LECHE LEAGUE...LELECHELEAGUE.ORG....THEY CAN PROVIDE USEFUL INFORMATION AND SUPPORT FOR THE PROBLEM YOU ARE FACING NOW AND IN THE FUTURE. ONLY YOU CAN KNOW WHAT IS BEST FOR YOUR BABY, AND IF HE IS THRIVING THE WAY YOU ARE HANDLING IT (ON BREASTMILK), THEN GO FOR IT.

HOWEVER, IF YOU ARE ON FORMULA...FROM WHAT I HAVE READ AND RESEARCHED, THERE IS MUCH MISSING FROM FORMULA THAT BABY NEED (WHICH IS PROVIDED BY BREASTMILK) SO MAYBE TABLE FOODS AREN'T SO BAD IN THAT SITUATION.
