You can buy these small round tins that have clay/mold stuff already in them and it's made specifically for making imprints of your children's hands.

Its fine. Ask the seller of your plaster of paris suplier because I molded plaster of paris into a fake iceburg for a Titanic report. I was fine. I just molded it into a ball and then washed my hands with no rush. It should be okay if it is a major company brand.

I have never been burned by plaster of paris. You can use dry wall mud, called "All Purpose Joint Compound" and save money. It won't burn. You will have to let it harden for about 15 minutes prior to using it for a hand print.

plaster of paris can become hot when it cures, that might not be good for a baby, why not find some pottery clay and make a foot print, ,then cast that it would be like an animal track you would find out side

Try using clay. Make two, keep one, and por the plaster of paris in the other, and you have two prints.

How about a clay mold. Then it can be fired in a kiln for a more permanent keepsake.
