I have had about enough of these 3 and the news coverage they are getting. It's not like these 3 are children who wandered into the woods and got lost, they are hardcore adult climbers who knew they were taking their live's in their own hands everytime they climbed a mountain. I understand the people going out in helicopters in teams and searching for them, but how much time and money will go into trying to find these 3? And the news coverage, how ridiculous is this? This should be local news and not national, I don't care about these 3! People die everyday, all day, all year. I don't care about 3 people who had nothing better to do than climb a fricking mountain, must be nice to have so much freetime. If the story and coverage can help with the recovery of some lost children I would be fine with that, but what's the point of overblowing this story, everything that can be done is being done, next story! Who else here does not give a crap about the fate of these 3?

To Adrial-Any hint of anger is directed at the media, not the climbers. Even though I think they do have too much time on their hands and they are selfish for taking chances and leaving their families behind, the media is the one I have anger toward. Top of food chain? Well if they were they are now at the bottom. I dont get your rant but oh well. Maybe you should stop being so anal and start to read between the lies.

American's are dying in Iraq for Bush and crew, the countries we should be invading are building and testing their new nuclear toys, corporation's are selling out our country from under us, people are being slaughtered for diamonds oil revenge politics religion as we speak, we are at the point of great disaster in this country and the next few years will decide the fate of all of us, and the media is drowning the airwaves with 3 stupid climbers! What's there to be angry about? If you don't know your not paying attention.

They don't have anything else to report and they have to cover the empty spaces on the news, that's the media unfortunately, if there would be god forbid a plane crash, they nobody knew a thing about the climbers..☺

Well, perhaps it may seem overblown to some. I find it interesting and quite tragic. I guess it is big news because of the frantic search to find them alive, and the high likelyhood that they will not be.
Also, I think there may be a lull in other news stories in the US right now, so they are milking this story for all that it is worth.
They did the same thing with the Kim family just a few weeks ago, remember? They were stranded in the snow and the father was found frozen to death.
Tragedy is big news.

I don't necessarily agree with tone of your final statement, but I can empathize with the emotion therein.
As a human being, and fellow "bozo on this bus," I do give a crap about any loss of life, regardless of the circumstances, but I know what you mean.
What you have really brought up has been a major issue with me for a long time. I'm not going to turn my reply into a master's thesis, but briefly, it's the media, and what passes for news.
Because of ratings, news coverage has really been perverted into something pretty useless, as far as I'm concerned. I've even taken that a step further and decided that television is a waste of time.
I listen to Public Radio, read off the internet, and my only exposure to commercial radio is sporting events. I've never seen an episode of Seinfeld or Survivor, and I won't be caught dead wasting my time with American Idol.
Trying to keep up with Lebanon, Syria, Israel, the rest of the Middle East, and that intellect-challenged leader of ours takes up most of my time...
Theres a saying that at the moment I don't exactly remember, but it involves three people when a major event occurs. There are those that impact what happened, there are those that know what happened, and there are those that ask,"What the hell happened?"
I don't have the power to impact anything, but I'll be damned if I'm going to be sitting there with my potato chips watching dancing with the stars and asking my other brother darryl, "What the hell happened?"
My suggestion to you, since you brought this rather profound issue to the forefront, is to decide what is important to you, and to decide what's useless. Obviously, blow off what you find useless, and search out what's important to you. I guarantee you will be surprised where you wind up!

In my opinion they did something extremely foolish: they climbed a mountain in winter using a technique called "Alpine ascent", which means "as lightly equipped as possible", because they wanted to make the ascent "as quickly as possible". Given the fact the weather on mountain tops can become nasty in short order it was foolish to attempt this ascent at this time of the year without flares, extra food, extra clothing for frigid conditions, fuel for fires, radios or extra cell phone batteries, etc. Another thing that might be possible would be to put emergency supplies for climbers on the mountain, and for the climbers themselves to have GPS locators on them so that they could be located in an instant instead of having to look all over the mountain for the survivors. Some of these things should probably become laws as it would save lives.

It distracts people from thinking about American soldiers being killed in Iraq. Me, I want to throw up every time I hear about a soldiers death. Mountain climbers - heck, they could have found better things to do with their money. I am a father, my responsibility is to my family, which means I don't risk my life for fun.

Best answer is "Slow news day". You can bet if some bigger story came along the news channels would drop the story of this trio in a heartbeat.

hmmmm-the bit about "must be nice to have so much free time",and ur lack of empathy lead me to believe,ur question isnt really about them.what comes across clearly in ur loud, angry rant,is the probability that a)u feel unnoticed ,anonymous and unnapreciated by the world b)u wish u could take a vacation, but u are being blocked from doing so(too much responsibility?lack of pay?) c)there is a question of class-mountain climbing=special equipment,money,leisure-u feel these people deserved their fate because they are higher on the food chain.maybe im wrong in my armchair psychology-if so,i apologise.but the anger u feel,if the story REALLY meant nothing to u,wouldnt exist-u would feel INDIFFERENCE.

It's human interest, and over done, the three in my oppinion went through it to gain notice, and possibly a book and movie. THere are such people that will put at risk, for their selfish motives.

If it were your family on that mountain, I bet it would be important to you , huh? It's obvious you're a grumpy person. Maybe you ought to change your situation to feel better about yourself. LOL.. NO WONDER YOU'RE SINGLE!
