I got birthday cards and money from my grandparents whom I have not spoken with in a year due to a falling out with my father..They stopped talking to me and now I need to call them to thank them but does anyone have any ideas how to make this conversation a little less awkward?

Why do you have to call? A very nice thank you card with a nice sentiment from you would be OK. This way you can say or not say what you want! However, I think it is great they still sent you the gifts, don't you? Just because your father and them are not speaking, this might be a good chance for you to ask how you were dragged into it and it is quite uncomfortable for you.

act like there is nothing wrong till the topic comes up. they obviously care about you and miss you a bunch if they didn't want to talk to you then why would they send a card? just because it's your birthday i don't think so. it takes a lot for grandparents to remember birthdays. my grandparents never remember mine. i say give them a call really what is the worst thing that could happen ?

um i think i'll stay awkward untill u talk about the situation u guys are in. if u feel guilty about taking the money maybe u should thanks them and say that u do no feel that you should accept thier gifts in the future but thank them for the one this year.

maybe if u still care etc for them, u could say how even though you guys haven't talked for a while you still care for them and hope that ur relationship with them will be able to go on even though you and ur father (what happend here).

yeah this is a hard one, all i know that if u jsut clarify ur relationship with them then things should be less awkward, (though i dont know how u do feel about them,) so yeah just clarify things i guess

i hope things go well! :)

I don't know why you should feel awkward. This fall out is between your dad and his parents. Apparently, they still think of you and love you very much. I am sure that it is hard for them to make contact with you. They just want to know that you're okay and that you're still loved. I think you should call them and thank them whole heartily. Tell them that you're very happy to hear from them and that you missed them a lot and go from there.

Good luck...
