Depends, are you referring to the harddrive or RAM?
to check for RAM usage, you can just hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete. in the Status Bar (Bottom) it will show you CPU Usage: (0-100%). Anywhere between 50-100 is a sign that you are running too many programs and you need to upgrade your memory.
now if you are speaking in terms of harddrive, where you keep downloading music, pictures, files, and want to know how much space left. go to your desktop or go to Start>My Computers folder. click on drive C: and it will show you how much free space you have left.

I'm guessing you reffer to hard drive space. what you do is find 'My computer' and open that. On the local hard drive (usually C:) right click it and chose properties. all the HD info should be there.
