She was an actress from the 1930s to the 1980s and had the most popular sitcom in history for that time in the 1950s, 'I Love Lucy.' It still plays on a daily basis in most of the world.

Lucille Ball is famous becasue she is one of the funniest women to ever live.
She started out in vaudeville(old time shows) and then started with a show that was called I Love Lucy with 3 other marvelously funny people including her husband, Desi Arnaz.
Lucy could do comedy, dancing, schemes and anyhting else.
She had her shows running until the 1980's in one or more shows called 'Here's Lucy' and 'The Lucy Show' even after the I love Lucy show was off the air.
The shows were funny, family oriented. There was no violence, no guns, no sex, no hint of racism.
The I Love Lucy SHows are still run in syndication on thousands of networks today-thats about 50 or more years after they were made.
Lucille Ball died in the late 1980's, but her comedy still lives on.
Please see the link below. Wikipedia does a nice bio on her.

i think the biggest reason why she's famous is because during the 30's and 60's, women are not as powefull as they would like to be. Lucille Ball pretty much set foot for females to have more power especially on television. She's the one who probably set the tone of women having jobs and being funny and maybe fight back with their husbands.

Go watch some old episodes of "I Love Lucy". She was a TV comedy pioneer and one of the first women to be recognized as the best in her respective field of entertainment.
Two classic episodes:
1. She is working at a chocolate factory with her friend and the conveyor belt goes crazy, forcing them to hoard chocolate balls in their hats, clothes, mouths, etc.
2. She is smashing grapes by stomping around in a giant wooden tub with some crazy Italian woman and they get into a fight.
She's still funny 50-60 years later. Quite a feat.

She was a major television star in the very infancy of the Television Age.
She was a famous comedienne, and could do dramatic roles as well.
She was considered one of the great Beauties of her time.
Her marriage to Desi Arnaz was one of the first "Tabloid romances" that fueled gossip columns for years.
Her show "I love Lucy" helped establish the form of the "situation comedy" as we know it. Shows like Three's Company, Friends and lots of others took inspiration from I Love Lucy's plotlines.
Many of the plots/scripts from her show have been lifted/adapted for other, newer sitcom scripts.
