My girlfriend was on a different cycle the second time she took it.

Without sounding rude, please do not lecture me about contraception: we use contraception but the condoms failed twice! My girlfriend reacts badly to the pill.

Please do not advise me on contraception or the perils of the morning after pill - I am aware of all of this. I am very concerned about the pregnancy risk and would appreciate someone who is knowledgable about this subject allaying my fears.

It should be, IF you took it within the prescribed 72 hours after intercourse both times. If she has a problem with the b.c. pill, though, how is she dealing with the emergency contraception? It's the same thing.

Frankly I think you guys might want to reconsider your condom brand if you have had two breaks in a week. Correct size (not too big or too small) and adequate lube will help this a lot. Make sure they aren't expired either.

If your girlfriend was on different cycles and 8 days apart that implies she was either on her period or had just finished it when at least one of the incidents occurred and so the risks of pregnancy at this time were pretty minimal anyway. When you add the morning after pill to this then you can be fairly confident that she is not pregnant.

My doctor actually denied me the morning after pill when this happened to me during a period because the risks of pregnancy were less than the risks that the morning after pill would damage my body.

The doctor would not prescribe the morning after pill both times if it wasn't effective. I would still go to the doctors for a prescription like that rather than buy it over the counter as they are much more able to prescribe based on the individual's experience.

Good luck for the future :)

as long as she has taken it within the 72 hour window it should prevent pregnancy. i bet she is feeling quite unwell at the moment take care of her but you really should look at a more effective contraception, it is not recommended to use emergency contraception often, this could make her periods and hormones imbalanced. try a better condom, or make sure you are using it correctly. if there is air in it it will tear. good luck, look after her she needs you.

Ok, I'll hold with a lecture as accidents happen, just thought the first would've scared you is all.
I doubt it will work but you never know, those things do a lot of damage to the insides while effective, chances are she might not get pregnant as it could still be in her system; only a GP could sort this one for you. Good luck whatever happens

Yes, it will prevent the pregnancy. She'll be fine.

There are lots of other options for birth control out there, the implant, the mirena coil & Depo Provera shots. Hopefully your GF can find something that is more reliable than condoms. More fun too :)

It should still be effective, but it is not the best alternative if your girlfriend's long-term health is considered valuable to either of you.
