The best car wash soap that you can easily buy is Meguiar's NXT and Gold Class soaps. Mother's Cali Gold and Eagle One are just as good but be aware that there isn't much performance difference between soaps.

The best over-the-counter waxes are Duragloss Aquawax and Mother's Reflections. Both are extremely easy to use, rival the look of my $70 Souveran wax and are very durable. You'll like them.

Consumer Reports magazine published an article rating car waxes in its July, '06 edition. Black Magic Wet Shine Liquid and Turtle Wax Carnauba Car WaxT6 were rated number 1 and 2. Both sell for about $7.00 a bottle. I bought and tried them both. They both are excellent - very shiny, very durable. Note that other far more expensive, big name, big marketing budgets' waxes finished much farther down on the list. Look yourself!

If you want the best protection and shine, then you need to take several steps to achieve this:

1. Clay bar your paint surface. You can get a clay bar kit at most auto parts shops. You use a lubricant to rub a clay bar on your paint surface to remove embedded contaminants. It will make your paint surface as smooth as glass. My personal favorite is Clay Magic but Meguires and Mothers both make good clay bars too.

2. Step two would usually involve polishing your paint to remove scratches, spider-webbing, and swirls but since your car is new, it probably won't have much of these imperfections.

3. Wax or sealant. Carnauba wax is the most known form of protection for your paint and many prefer the deeper shine of carnauba but it doesn't last as long as most sealants. My personal favorite carnauba wax is S100 (aka PS21) - you can get it at any Harley Davidson store. Meguires makes good "off the shelf" wax too. My favorite sealant is Zaino but you can only get this via the Zaino website and it's expensive.

Remember, the most important step is paint preparation. Otherwise, it won't matter which wax or sealant you choose. Improper washing and drying techniques are also a big culprit for scratches and swirls. Only use wash mitts and soap designed for washing cars. Use two buckets: one for the soap and one with clean water to rinse off your mitt before every time you "reload" your mitt with soap to wash off any dirt/grime it picked up washing your paint surface.

Good luck!

I love the Prestone car wax. You can appy it in the sun or shade, it is easy on and easy off and doesn't leave much dusty wax residue. I have used many waxes and Prestone is by far the best from my experience. For washing I recommend Armor All car wash liquid.
