Tru that Doc8....

Which is probably why we are facing some of the contentious race issues we have today.

I wouldn't blame Lincoln; I place that failure of the Southern politicians of that day who resisted tooth and nail reform and fair treatment of blacks in America.

Slavery was abolished with the ratification of the 13th Amendment to the Constitution.

Just a little information on that subject.

I'm sure you are talking about the emancipation proclamation which (I believe) was signed about a 141 years ago however, slavery was not abolished because of that fact.

Truth is: Some African Americans were not allowed to be free for many years after the proclamation.

There are plenty of people that would disagree with your statement, I'm sure one would be Dr. King. Others would include Blacks that have been killed on American streets because of color.

Slavery has been abolished, that is true but, it wasn't abolished 141 years ago... A paper was signed which, did not free the slaves! There are more significant dates to celebrate than an over rated, under-published, political move that really didn't free most slaves for another 20 years!

Down here in Texas we celebrate June 19th as the day in 1865 it was proclaimed abolished by a Union General in Galveston.
Happy Juneteenth too.

Not really. No provision was made to care for all the free slaves who lost their homes and employment. That was another of Lincoln's failures.
