The biggest reason has to do with the gloves themselves. Because they are so thick you cant make a great fist and would more likely break your own fingers than inflict damage on the other guy. Plus they are so thick and heavy that they have give so if you got a great punch in it wouldnt do much to the other guy.
So drop those gloves and lay those bare knuckles against the other guys head so he knows you wont be putting up with his crap.

A fist hurts a hole lot more than a glove.

And it's not a rule, it's called Roughing and it doesn't matter if you got your gloves on

Rule 51 - Roughing

Punching motion with the hand or fist with or without the glove on the hand, normally directed to the head or face of the opponent.

hockey players drop their gloves before each fight because they are so pissed at the other guy they just want to get after him and let them know that u arent scared.

some fights are because of the fact the teammate is sticking up for there teammate. whilst i became observing the Kings recreation, Jack Johnson have been given overwhelmed, no penalty so Matt Greene went after the guy and there became a combat. different circumstances are because of the fact the gamers communicate undesirable approximately that participant and that reasons a combat. this does not take place commonly yet whilst i became the Kings recreation Ratis Ivanansnd Larque have been given in a combat, yet that they had Ivanans on the Mic. and Larque and Ivanans have been talking and Larque requested Ivanans if he had to flow and Ivanans mentioned sure, so as that they have been given in a combat. different circumstances are whilst a team is dropping 3-0 or some thing the dropping team could have one participant and in basic terms combat to get the gang back in it and the followers even though it doesn'tappen plenty.

The players can't grab the other guy's uniform shirt if they are waeing their gloves. It's also hard to punch with those gloves on!

They drop their gloves so that when they punch their opponent their knuckles can pierce through their skin. Bare knuckles hurt more than padded gloves!

i believe its a rule of hockey.. they are only allowed to fight if two people square off.

dropping their gloves is an exaggerated way of squaring off, to let the refs know they want to do it and not to break them up.
