I think I was about 8 or 9 wks when I first heard it. Took a while as the baby was floating around and wouldn't stay still for very long :). But it is very fast and easy to distinguish between your own and the baby. You should be able to hear the heartbeat at your next appointment. Congrads.

I had my 2nd OB appointment when I was 10 1/2 weeks, and was able to hear the heartbeat loud and clear. Just don't get nervous if it takes a little while for the doctor to locate the heartbeat- they're so tiny at that point and it's hard to know exactly where they are in the uterus. Being thin will typically help you hear it sooner, but I've known some women who were thin and still couldn't hear it on a doppler until 14 weeks. If your doctor is unable to hear it, he/she may order an early ultrasound to ease any worries, but if you don't hear it at 9 weeks, that's completely normal.

IMO they are all a waste of money, and should be pulled off the market, they should only be used by trained medical professionals, if you don't find the babys heartbeat you will instantly panic and think somethings wrong when 9 times out of 10 everything is just fine. Save your money, so long as baby is moving good you dont need to hear the heartbeat to know they are in there. They are not as easy as they look...and no where near as good as the medical dopplers.

At 9 to 10 weeks is when the doctor should start hearing the hear beat. And let me tell you it is the best feeling in the world when you hear it. I started crying its beautiful. Good luck. I heard mine at 10 weeks. And now I hear it all the time at home with one i got from walmart and it makes me smile every time. Good luck on the baby. Congrats.

I had my first doctors appointment at 10 weeks and they were unable to hear a heartbeat but told me it was perfectly normal and I went back at 12 weeks and there was the heart just beating away. Don't be scared if you don't hear the heartbeat my doctor said that many women do not hear it until week 12.

I was about 9-10 weeks along and I heard it. If you can't hear it at your appt, you can buy machines to be able to do it at Babies R Us and other places. ( I didn't have a whole lot of luck with them though).

My doctor refuses to see any patients before 12 weeks, because by then you should definetly be able to hear the heartbeat. Mothers to be would freak out if they came in before 12 weeks and couldnt hear their heartbeat... so 12 weeks is the rule of thumb.

I think I was about 13 weeks, but I am not totally sure.--I did see it on the ultrasound at 9 weeks. It was pretty awesome. I am assuming this is your first. you may be able to see the impression of little feet and hands on your belly, as you get futher along and the baby start kicking and punching. A friend of mine was able too, and she was thin. I am not so thin,so I did't see that, but sure could feel the little foot pushing on my rib cage. Enjoy.

i am 13 weeks and haven't hear the hearbeat yet. Everything is fine, baby is growing, but it is a little early yet. Some doctors won't even check until 16 weeks in case the mother freaks out... not everybaby can be heard early
