When you believe you Know & must hold on to this "Truth". Then the mind closes to further awareness. That is like climbing a 40 foot ladder and upon reaching the tenth rung and it is so beautiful you decide to stay there forever. You will never experience the view at the top. Any truth, such as "God dwells within you as you". if contemplated it will lead you through layer after layer of Awareness until ultimately you will realize that you have unity with God in unconditional love within your heart. If you quit seeking with open mind and heart that is where you stay.

When you really don't have an argument, I've seen. I don't debate with anyone that doesn't know what the other sides ideas are. Being firm in your beliefs isn't being closed minded, but when you refuse to listen, answer and take into consideration someones opposition, then you're closed minded.

Once you lose respect for the beliefs of others, that is when "the mind closes". A person who is firm in his or her beliefs should respect the beliefs of others, realizing that the belief system of others in no way threatens or diminishes his or her own belief system. Sounds like babble, in other words- I like apples, you like oranges, just because I acnowledge and respect that you like oranges, it doesnt take anything away from my apples. Hope that makes sense.

I guess it all depends on your believes..people who call people close minded only means they can't change your opinion so ...I would do some research on the subject if it's an issue with your friends.. proving your beliefs

Well, All I know is that you should not open your mind so far that you brains fall out!!
Saying one is close minded is a term used when the opposing party is just frustrated with not being able to change your position to their position.

When you turn away others who have pure intentions just because they don't believe the same thing, like when people of different Christian denominations bicker about the different 'rules' they each have. Using that example, a Christian is a Christian is a Christian in my opinion.....
