Soliciting is illegal, asking for money for sex is also illegal. Being an "escort" isn't.
Yeah, it is seen as seedy. These were regular gils, from good homes, who were dragged down by drugs. They've arrested somebody now, apparently, the boyfriend of one of them.

I'm from the US. I thought prostitution was legal in Las Vegas.. I could be wrong. Anyway, just throwing that out there for my American counterparts in case they can tell me either way.
I did NOT see it as seedy. I guess I was surprised and felt sad to see these poor girls go through this, but shoot, there is crap that goes on here in the states all the time I'm sure that we don't see. The media shows us what's hot for the moment. Sometimes I wonder if we are actually free.

Don't you remember that Jesus hung out with prostitutes? My cousin was a stripper, which isn't the same I realize, but she knew a few prostitutes. She said they were the same as her. It's degrading work, but anything can be really. Is it really worse (psychologically) to have to take that when you have the right to kick him out if he's too rough or too mean or doesn't talk to you right than going to work and having to listen to your boss call you a lazy, no account, useless piece of scab because you put the wrong kind of cream in his coffee? Most prostitutes get into it because they can do it high. Some do because they can make money at it.
In times and places where there are brothels, some prostitutes always raise to the top levels. They keep themselves clean and demand a high level of respect. In those societies, they're seen as providing a service to society.
I find it ironic that in our society, a man is expected to pay for 85% of the dating experience, after which his girlfriend may or may not have sex with him depending on her mood, then she can move in with him and he is expected to provide her room and board and pay her love and attention and buy her lavish gifts and make sure she has spending money, but if he actually "pays for sex," then all of a sudden she's a prostitute.
Even in my own marriage: I am the bread winner, I take good care of my wife and our son. I'm not saying my wife has it easy now, but she used to before our son came along. It was about four hours of work every other day to keep the house picked up. She has always taken her marital responsibilities to me very seriously, partly as a result of this. But if I were to actually make an arrangement with her, to let her have spending money based on my marital bliss, then all of a sudden she'd be a "whore" and evil and people would look down on her. As it is, she's seen as a "good wife" and "she takes such good care of her husband." I don't see where the break down is, myself.

Well, yeah, it's still seen as seedy but it's not a law that prostitutes must look skanky. A lot of people understand that prostitution isn't a choice. It's a situation some unlucky girls get themselves into.
I'm English.

It's one of the oldest professions in the world! Who'd have thought...
What gets me that is that in the news prostitutes are all stereotyped as junkies. I used to be friends with one who never touched drugs at all, I think she just had a very liberal view on sex and enjoyed doing it...just so hapens she got paid for it, she didn't even walk the streets, all was done at her flat.

Those photos were obviously of better days. The world that these people live in, doesn't usually use cameras to record daily life.
I did however see a part documentary of one of the very girls murdered. It showed her getting ready for anight out, and her legs wereterribly scabbed!
She didn't seem very respectable then, at all.

Well good for you!
You've realised that prostitutes are just like anyone else! But sadder, more disadvantaged and more desperate.
We need to seriously rethink how we treat these women and help rather than exclude them.

Yeah, they looked just like regular gals you'd see at the local walmart buying stuff for her kids.
It's sad, it's tragic.
I hope they find the right guy and return the guillotine!
