I don't think we can lay this entirely at the feet of religion. There are plenty of good religions out there that are perfectly accepting of gays and lesbians. Remember, Jesus didn't say a word about us, for or against. If it was really such a big deal, Big J would have mentioned it.
I think it's just the gross out reaction on the part of hets. Guys think other guys are disgusting and the thought of sex with them makes them sick. Most women don't have the same reaction to other women so we bi and lesbian women don't have the quite same problems that our gay brothers do.

Open minded is ok, As long as you dont use it for corrupted things, otherwise we would be looking at open-minded criminals and their odysseys and projects explaining why they would be like that .Lets see what is Right thing and a Wrong Thing. Who decides what is wrong and what is right? Religion? Nature? In any case I cannot figure out how pedophiles, sex deviated people could be ok ever if nature rules are male-female and viceversa, maybe what many are trying to impose is that The sun should be Red Color from now on and that's ok and the Moon should be Yellow, and instead of this one being the satellite that orbits earth, she should be the center of our solar system, and the king sun would be our closest planet!!so lets chance everything and start all over again!

Most people are afraid of something they do not understand... I think a lot of people feel threatened by gays because they are so vocal about their issues... We are all Americans, and should all be treated with dignity and respect. I have come to believe that gay people really are "wired differently",( no offense intended ) and have every right to express themselves however they wish. I guess what I mean is you are born with a predisposition on how you will turn out, it is not really a choice, and has been determined before you are born. My parents were shocked to learn my brother is gay. He had a lot of hurdles to deal with, and we have had many discussions about all the hardships and difficulties he has had. Simply put, why can't we all just accept the diversity of society, and more or less mind our own business...

The very word "homophobic" is political spin. The whole “gay marriage” issue is all about politics because anybody can get married in any private setting. Just get married nobody can stop you. It's about getting a government stamp of approval and more importantly tax and insurance benefits for being married. Thus as I said it's all politics.

I think society is homophobic because they don't want to change. Keyword being: Change. They just don't want anything to turn different, just being average Joes. They may also want to mock people just because of their sexual orientation because they want to make fun of them which is cruel and demeaning. So what if a person is attracted to ones own gender? Nothing wrong with that, just tyring to stir up controversy. Or they are afraid since many people are homosexual that the human race will end or a war between homosexuals and heterosexuals. See, they don't want anything to change.

Well, I don't think it's gonna be a big deal for much longer. As of last year, people are kinda split 50/50 either way--which is a big jump from like the 80's. Homophobes are a dying breed, and they know it, so they're trying to fight harder. But at the rate things are going, they'll lose.

You said the words---political. I heard a recently defeated Senator tell (on a talk show on NPR) that Bush and his administration had kept the ''gay marriage'' issue going strong for a unity thing with the Evangelicals. It had been planned, and carried out, to keep these Evangelicals upset and supporting Bush. Bush pushed the changing of our Constitution to forbid them-not because he thought there would be a change in it, but, to keep and get Evangelical support.

society has a natural instinct to reject anything it thinks is lesser/worse/different/strange or new. it is part of life. i wish it weren't, but it is. we (the persecuted) must just suck it up and stick it out because it will never change. people think that american slavery was eliminated by the civil war, but the reality is that one person is brought to the U.S. each minute against their will. people think that racism against African Americans ended because of MLKJ, but the reality is it is still here. Gay liberation will not solve anything. it would take a miracle to end the homophobia that our society insists on having.
the homophobes in our world try to protect themselves from homosexuals by trashing and bashing and putting them down. we just have to forgive and let their insulting comments wash over us.
people do not become more opened minded as time goes on. at least, not at the rate that we would like.

Because of so called "social norms" put in place by people in power, and when you look back, religion and politics went hand-in hand, therefore, you got this thing about homosexuality being a sin . It's all about labeling . You would think even in cities like San Fran. things like that may not exist. BOY WOULD YOU BE SURPRISED!
