Studies show that their brains are not fully developed. They think they are adult enough to make certain decisions, but they really aren't until about 20 or so.
But from bad choices we learn our lessons wisely!

The things they do don't seem dumb at the time they do them....teens just don't have the experience to look ahead to see what the ramifications of their actions might be. They are also impulsive and sometimes just trying to impress or fit in.

Just being teen is a dumb thing. Adolescence should fall under the Geneva Convention's ban on torture.

i say its because we haven't fully developed the cognitive capacity to make good judgements. we still think that it is more important to be cool in front our friends than what our parents think. but after we get busted; our whole mindset changes. possibly also just to rebel. i'm not sure; i don't do a lot of stupid things.. at least not big things; like get in a car with a drunk driver.

The dumbest thing I've done is turn my head to my left in Geometry class and find myself looking at a guy that is jaking off right next to me. (Explained the odd smell that was going on in the back of the class.)

Their cerbeal cortex is underdeveloped, and as a result, they can't fully comlprehend the consequences of their actions. They are biologically incapable of that kind of abstract thinking.
