Well the 1st Red Sox home field, the Huntington Avenue Grounds was an all wood, bleachers only structure with a huge outfield, and no dugouts, which had a seating capacity of about 12,000. Also in 1909 both the Philadelphia A's and the Pittburgh Pirates built new stadiums out of concrete and steel that had capacities in the 25,000 range. In 1910 the White Sox built one also that had a 31,000 capacity. Those three teams had consistently bigger crowds, and praise for the new stadiums, and generated a lot more ticket money. Also in 1911 the Polo Grounds in New York, which had been a wood stadium since the late 1880's, burned down. Also back in 1894 a stadium in Boston burned down during a game that caused some fatalities.
So the want of having a bigger stadium along with the chance for the ballpark to last a long time, and to avoid fire danger, the decision in late 1911 to buy property in the Fens area to build Fenway Park was made. Fenway's original capcity was 27,000.
Ironicly, only the grandstand behind home plate was built with concrete and steel, and side area were built with wood. The side area between 3rd base and the left field foul pole was damaged by a fire in 1926, and no rebuilt until Fenway was remodeled in 1934.

It was built in 1912 because Huntington Avenue Grounds wasn't working out because of its size and small fan space. It also wasn't an official park, just a field with some benches. Fans actually used to come out onto the outfield to watch.
Little known fact-before the Green Monster, there was a small hill going up to the left field wall. It was called "Duffy's Cliff" because of the Boston outfielder that masters the plays off of it.

It was built so the Boston Red Stockings could play in an official park. They used to play in some old field. If you want more info, go to redsox.com.

It was built so the Red Sox could play Baseball.
It looks "intresting" because they had to fit it in to a small area. I believe it was opened on April 20, 1912

I have no clue why. The Red Sox don't need a place to play, because they shouldn't even be a team. They suck so much, that the team should be demolished altogether. There is no keeping the team here.

I can only assume you meant "when", if so it was in 1912.
