My girlfriend takes birth control, and says we dont need a condom. She says if she takes her pill at the same time everyday, and doesnt forget to, theres a 99% chance of it working. We've never used a condom and we've never had any problems, but I don't want to have a kid, I'm only a teenager. Does it really work that good?

Birth control is normally effective, but there's always a small chance!!! Not to be vulgar, but if I were you, I would pull out...

If you are that worried, than I would insist on the condom. There are other things besides pregnancies to worry about, STD. Also, yes if taken, the pill can be UP TO 99% accurate. But each woman's body is different and reacts differently to birth control. It is not a 100% guarantee. My brother and his girlfriend were using just birthcontrol, she swears she took it just right, but they now have a 1 month old daughter. Don't take the chance if your not ready.

She's right about the 99% part, but if she throws up, is 15 mins. late, or takes an antibiotic then it does no good. Use a condom. My daughter is now 3 and I was on the pill when I got pregnant with her. Trust your instincts.

Hormonal birth control IS 99% effective at preventing pregnancy. That 1% means we all know someone who has gotten pregnant while on the pill. It also doesn't prevent STDs, which ANYONE can have--anyone. This includes HIV/AIDS and Human Papiloma Virus, which causes cervical cancer in women. Protect yourself and your girlfriend and wear a condom. Don't let her talk you out of it. It's too important. Use a condom because you care about her and yourself.

Since you ask the question, your probably should wear your condom after all. When you are a teenager, there are a million reasons to wear a condom other than for birth control reasons.

OH my God. This is why kids need so much sex education.
1. You are probably safe from pregnancy as long as she takes it regularly and on time.
2. You are NOT protected from STDS. Get yourself checked out and start using condoms.
3. Do you want to be paying child support for the next 18 years of your life?
4. Are you ready to marry and take care of this girl AND a child if she ends up knocked up???
--------
Safe sex is the only way to go.
Buy condoms.

The pill is more effective than not taking the pill. It only took one time without the pill before my wife (now ex) was pregnant. It's like running across a busy street blindfolded and not getting run over. You have been very lucky, irresponsible, but lucky.

the pill does work that good as long as it is taken correctly EVERYDAY. although you are a teen and shouldnt be having sex period, I hope there is a lot of trust in the relationship for you to have unprotected sex. the pill only protects against pregnancy, but there are lots of STDs out there. I am sure you trust your girlfriend, but this is your life we are talking about and you should only trust yourself with it. Be Careful.

Your girlfriend is telling you the truth, it is that effective.
However, given your age, extra protection by way of a condom would not hurt!
