All verbs are action verbs. That is what defines a verb - it is a 'doing' word, or 'action' word.

An action verb basically tells what something is doing. (Johnny ran in a marathon). The action verb is ran (simple past tense I believe).

Verbs tell what something is doing or tells what state something is in.

an action verb is bascially what you are doing in the sentence. for example in the sentence: She jumps over the fence, JUMPS in the action verb.
