I think because he had the button on auto-forward or something like that and the weird guy said he can't go back because he already pressed it.....I'm not sure because I kept saying that through the whole movie, "push rewind fool." But he never did.

Because if He pressed the rewind button he wil only see the past and cant change the past.

i thought he did when he got in the first argument. if i can remember, he went back in forth then he realized he could just skip the arguement between his wife and himself, so thats when he fastforwarded it then the remote had memory so everytime they started to argue it was fast forwarding it more and more everytime.

He uses it when he goes back to see what he missed or can't remember.
Like when he goes back to the first kiss and to see the last time he saw his father.
