Camaro, runs fine while driving, but when idleing it is rough, and then dies.....also the guages fuel, temp, are bouncing all over.
Does this sound like a com puter problem, PCM, maybe. Help me out here if you can..thx....fuel filter is new.

i have thought of these ideas, but they don't make sense with the guages jumping.....I'm still thinking computer problem.....plugs, wires, no cap (this is an 02, not 82) (fuel injected). It did have a vaccuum leak, but replaced the hose, I had thought maybe another leak, but still doesn't explain the guages...

Make sure that all of your spark plug wires are connected and that your distributor cap isn't cracked. Sometimes when the car isnt running on all cylinders, driving it at normal speed will make the engine run smoothly because it can easily "skip over" that cylinder that isnt firing.

First thought is a bad catalytic coverter, O2 sensor, plus & wires, fuel filter. But if the gauges are jumping that sounds like an electrical problem. Now, if it was wiring, it would always do it. But since it does it at only certain times, it sound like it could be the ECM. I would take it to a Chevrolet dealer.

Not to scare you but, I had a 1995 camaro about 4 years ago. My car started doing that right before the engine block cracked and forced me to junk it. It was doing it for about 6 months prior. I had it tuned up and it would always go right back to doing it. I noticed if I turned the air down it would run a little more gentle. It might just be time to start looking for a new car.

Computer problem? Nope.

Vacuum hose came off intake manifold? Probably.

EGR valve stuck? Could be.

Distributor cap, and rotor? Maybe.

ADDED:
OK then, loose wire on the alternator output terminal.

All wrong. You have a bad ground connection between the engine and the frame. Since the battery and alternator ground to the engine and everything else grounds to the frame, if you don't have a good connection between the two, nothing will work right.
