In Norway, Christmas is celebrated on December 24th. Up to this date - according to tradition - all Christmas preparations have to be completed (tree decorated, seven kinds of cookies bakes, different meats prepared etc etc). The 24th starts off with a hearty breakfast/brunch, where all extravaganza is displayed and served. Afterwards, friends and families are visited and Christmas-gifts are exchanged. The evening starts off with a major meal, usually an old family receipe and/or traditional meal. After dinner (which can last for hours), Christmas presents are opened.
Albeit there are regional differences and traditions, as well as family-customs, most Norwegians consider the 24th to be the start of the Christmas season, and New Years' Day to be its final.
