Jeff Beck's career has spanded over 40 years and he's still does things no one else does. Best alive by far.

Avenge Sevenfold is most definitely not the best modern guitarist not even close. I've heard a ton of guitarists in my time as a former guitarist and a drummer for a band. The most crazed player I can think of now is Mark Tremoli but he's not the best just an off the top of the head thing. The best non-main stream guitarist I've heard plays for the band 31 Feet. He whipped out an imprompt solo, the most amazing guitar solo I've ever heard in my life.

Buckethead because he's an amazing guitarist and unlike many guitarists, he is better in concert. Not only can he play the guitar like a madman, he is also very entertaining to watch as he does a lot of different things while he plays.

Since the death of Stevie Ray Vaughn, I would have to say that Eric Clapton is at the top of the guitarist food chain. Reason? Just listen to some of his work. He can play any style with greatness, is the most versatile of anyone I ever heard in my 46 years, and for blues, there are none alive that can even touch him.

I have to say...........pete wentz!!!! Just kidding! No, it's really hard to choose. There's the guitarist from A7X. He's good. Then there's the guitarist from 3DG (three days grace). Mike from Green Day's not bad, although he is kinda standard. Then there is the guitarist from 30 Seconds to mars. NOT TO MENTION the guitarist from Seether AND evanescence!!!!! Out of all the guitarists out today, I cannot choose!!!!!!

Its either Brian May OR it's NO WAY!! Take a listen to him solo, makes these other jerks around today sound like tourists.
What's more, he acts like he actually CARES about he sounds AND looks when he is doing a live show...he doesn't look like he is half drugged out or that he just crawled out of a sewer somewhere.

Ani DiFranco totally rocks the acoustic. Listen to any of her songs... it's amazing. If you try to play a lot of her stuff, there are some of the most intricate and complicated out there. Ani is amazing.
