I'm about to buy a duplex. The basement has an uneven concrete floor. would like to even it out, and lay down a nice, plush carpet. may use it as a bedroom. would like to find out how much i'm going to spend? The space is only 10 feet by 16 feet wide. how much is the concrete going to be? laying the carpet? and work? and how long would something like this take. HELP!

The ceiling is 10 feet high. this is a new condo conversion. so i should find out what the county is saying about it being a bedroom before i buy? or do you think that it's already passed inspection? they are selling it as a "master bedroom". but i wasn't sure if i wanted to use it as that or just an office. the floor has some dips due to some sloppy work. some recent posts were poured in place. conc. was not cleaned up very well. general floor area looks level.

carpet u need 22 sq yds- avg. $ 25.00 per yd installed = $550.00

if the dips in concrete floor r less than 1/2",the flooring guy can float the floor with a concrete patch about $ 250.00....

if u make it a bedroom, u will need anther way out of the room other than the bedroom door, a window, check ur codes for ur sizes...

leveling out the floor shouldnt be necessarry unless it has more than 3/8" of deviation in 10', if you are going to use a shag type carpet with a pad underneath. Expect to pay about $20 a yard (installed)for some decent carpet, rember there are 9 square feet in a square yard so thats about $2.25 a sf. Your room will cost approx $350. shop around get 3 estimates and go with the best deal. Remember the best deal doesnt always mean the lowest price, look for warranty, and service as well. As far as calling the room a bedroom, that is your decision, you could call it office, or even a closet, it will not matter except to the rentor reading the add.

If you are planning to use this room as a spare bedroom, you might be in violation of fire codes. For basements to be used as primary living space, codes usuallly requre alternate escape routes.

In order to answer your question, more information is needed.
How high is the current ceiling? Is the floor unlevel as in sloping to one side or does it have waves in it?

If your going to do any major construction - which would include pulling out the concrete floor, you might want to consider installing a basement bathroom and do all the work at the same time.

You should get a visual inspection by someone for the most accurate answer.
