My sister just got an female adult leopard gecko from petsmart. The clerk told us that we could feed her(the gecko affectionetly named Sahara like the desert) fruit. I think the clerk said apples and oranges but I want to be sure exactly what Kinds so not to make our new family member sick.

Many people have posted on other ?'s that leo's only eat insects and if that is what you have to say then don't post here. I have been doing research for over an hour on articles about geckos and reptile experts have said that leo's will eat fruit so do your reseach if you want to be a proper leopard gecko parent!!

Pianoman...they do eat fruit. They are not strict carnivores. Some people use baby food such as peach, apricot, mango and papaya. These are all good foods to eat and they add hydration to the diet, as well. Switch up fresh fruit/veggies (along with the live food) and put them in so the gecko gets a better assortment of nutrients (example: carrots = vit A, oranges = vit C, apples = fiber). Keep in mind that bugs ARE the majority of any leo diet, but offering fruit and a few greens will complete a good diet. Use mashed banana in very small amounts. The high phosporous content can rob it's body of iodine.

You can also feed this stuff to the crix. It's gutloading with fresh food and adding some oatmeal can help round out the crix diet before feeding them to your sister's leo.

Have fun with it...they're very personable little beasties!

Well people will tell you that because it's true... LEO's DO NOT NEED FRUIT!

They should not need fruit in a diet at all as long as the bugs they eat are gut loaded with nutritious fruit and veg and they are provided with water they do not need fruit.

They only notoce food from movement so they will probably not see or eat the fruit anyway!

I suggest you research better sites and for longer.
